Older people's publication statement 6 July 2016
Today, the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has published 28 inspection reports on residential settings for older people. HIQA monitors designated centres for compliance with Health Act Regulations and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland.Nine of today’s reports were dementia specific thematic inspections. The aim of these inspections is to promote best practice in relation to residents receiving meaningful, individualized, person-centred care.
Seven of the reports related to follow-up inspections, seven inspections focused on 10 outcomes, four reports were full 18 outcome inspections and one was a medication management thematic inspection.
Six centres inspected were found to have one or more major non-compliances. Suitable Staffing and Health and Social Care Needs were the main areas of non-compliance overall. Safe and Suitable Premises was a key concern in three out of the four HSE nursing homes inspected.
