Older people's publication statement 13 October 2016
Today the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has published 21 inspection reports on residential settings for older people. HIQA monitors designated centres for compliance with Health Act Regulations and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland.
Five of today’s reports relate to full 18-outcome inspections, 11 reports are inspections against 10 outcomes, five reports are follow-up inspections and one report relates to a single specific-issue inspection.
Fifteen inspections were unannounced; the provider was not informed that the inspection would be taking place. These inspections found a mix of compliance and non-compliance. Seven reports relate to announced inspections.
Twelve centres were found to be in compliance with the regulations and standards. These reports show that residents’ needs were met and the care delivered to residents was safe in these centres.
Evidence of non-compliance was found in nine centres. Inspectors found that these centres did not meet the needs of residents. Centres were failing to meet the regulations and HIQA standards in areas including safe and suitable premises, health and safety and risk management, medicines management, providing end-of-life care and submitting notifications to HIQA.
