Older people publication statement 8 December 2016
The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has today published 21 inspection reports on residential settings for older people. HIQA monitors designated centres for compliance with Health Act Regulations and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland.
Eleven of today’s inspection reports are 18-outcome inspections carried out to inform a registration decision, five are 10-outcome inspections, three are follow-up inspections to follow up on issues of non-compliance and two are single-specific-issue inspections.
Fourteen centres were found to be operating in compliance with the regulations and Standards. These reports show that residents’ needs were met and the care delivered to residents was safe in these centres.
However, evidence of non-compliance was found in seven centres. Residents in these centres were found to be at risk and their needs not met in the areas such as governance and management, safeguarding and safety, health and safety and risk management, safe and suitable premises, and suitable staffing.
