Older people publication statement 15 December 2016
Today the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has published 16 inspection reports on residential settings for older people. HIQA monitors designated centres for compliance with Health Act Regulations and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland (2016).
Five reports relate to dementia care thematic inspections. Seven reports refer to 10-outcome inspections, two are follow-up inspections, with one report each relating to a single specific issue inspection and an announced 18-outcome registration inspection. Good practice and compliance with the regulations and standards was found in 12 centres.
However, evidence of non-compliance was found in four centres. Inspectors found that these centres were not operating in compliance with the regulations or standards, and were not meeting the needs of residents. Major non-compliance was found in these four centres in areas including safeguarding and safety, governance and management, health and social care needs, suitable staffing, safe and suitable premises, health and safety, and risk management.
