Older people's publication statement 12 September 2016

Date of publication:

Today the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has published 18 inspection reports on residential settings for older people. HIQA monitors designated centres for compliance with Health Act Regulations and the National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland.

Five of today’s reports relate to full-18 outcome inspections undertaken to inform a registration decision. However, three of these inspections identified moderate non-compliances that impacted on the care and welfare of the residents.

Thirteen unannounced inspections were carried out as follow-up, 10 Outcome or single specific issue inspections. These inspections found evidence of good practices and compliance with the standards and regulations in 10 centres. However, three unannounced inspections found non-compliance in outcomes such as; Governance and Management, Health and Safety and Risk Management, Medicines Management, Notifications, Health and Social Care Needs, Suitable Staffing and Residents' Rights Dignity and Consultation.
