Informing decision making

Informing decision making for service users

Our aim is to help you make informed decisions about important health and social care issues – for yourself and for your family and friends. Read our standards to find out what you should expect from your health or social care provider. Check out our resource centre, where you can find checklists for choosing a nursing home or find registered centres.

Informing decision making for health and social care practitioners

Accurate and timely information is central to a safe and efficient health and social care system. We help support the delivery, planning and monitoring of services, by developing guidelines and making recommendations about issues governing health information and new health technologies.

By evaluating information and publishing information about the delivery and performance of Ireland’s health and social care services, we help health and social care practitioners to improve the lives of their service users.

Informing decision making for policy-makers

By ensuring policy-makers have access to the latest evidence-based information, we can support policy decisions to save lives and improve the quality of care for all.

We support policy-makers by evaluating the clinical and economic effectiveness of drugs, equipment, diagnostic techniques and health promotion activities, ensuring the best outcome for the service users.

We advise on policy relating to the collection and sharing of information across health and social care services, evaluating information and publishing information about the delivery and performance of Ireland’s health and social care services.
